GEN H$TL Podcast: Celebrating the Creative Come-Up
Updated: Feb 27, 2023
Hi everyone! My name is Jori, and I'm the founder of Generation Hu$tle, or GEN H$TL for short. I'm excited to share my story with you and tell you more about our community of creatives.
In 2019, I moved to New York from the West Coast and quickly found a community and family within a diverse group of creatives. As a photographer, I naturally started documenting the people around me, which ultimately led to the conceptualization of GEN H$TL.
Our first iteration was an interview series with seven different creatives, mostly within the music industry. We launched this project in a small magazine in 2021. But I knew I wanted to do more. So in 2022, I began thinking of a way to connect my passion for traveling with my passion for storytelling. In September We began recording the GEN H$TL Podcast with Season 1: Developing.
Our podcast, GEN H$TL Podcast Season 1, is all about highlighting the "come-up" of creatives from different disciplines through weekly interviews. I co-host the podcast with Stylist and Vibe Curator, Eric Oliver Jr, and Devynn Noble, a Community Organizer and Wellness Teacher.
We were able to produce and release the whole season in under two months, often recording three to four episodes a day. This was only possible because we had a sponsorship from Pirate Studios, a 24-hour recording studio with spaces in the US, UK, and Europe. After recording, our sound engineer, Paisho, worked with a team to edit and finalize the episodes ahead of our launch on November 13th. The intro music was produced by R&B Artist, as well as guest on our podcast, Todd Zack Jr.
The launch party for our podcast was held at the infamous Dumbo House, and I was thrilled to see it was a huge success. The event was sponsored by Baked In Bushwick, a local infused bakery, Excelsior Cannabis Club, a cannabis delivery service, and Hustle & Flo, a CBD wellness company. I originally thought we would have 50 people at the launch party, but we were shocked to have over 350 attendees.
Moments like that are what we do this for. We want to bring creatives together in one place. Often times living in New York City, we can fall into the hustle lifestyle or the hustle mentality, and times like this are a good time to reflect and celebrate those around you.
After all, we are a family, a tribe, a community. No matter where we come from or what languages we speak, art is universal.
Generation Hu$tle is a community of creatives that celebrates the "come-up" of creatives from all walks of life. We hope to inspire others to keep pushing for their dreams through our podcast, and we hope to create a supportive space where creatives can come together to celebrate their successes and lift each other up during challenging times.
